Saturday's Itinerary: Out with the old, in with the new. Frustrations began when Justin flipped the switch on the power source and pushed the "on" button. A slight breath of life, but then flat line. This went on for a couple hours. He turned to an online IT Message Board for advice. A suggestion to test each part separately could help diagnose the exact problem. During the breakdown and individual part testing, a screw began to strip that was anchoring the motherboard to the case. This caused Justin's blood pressure to rise and his face to turn red with anger.
Saturday came to a close with a plan to replace the power source with a larger one from BestBuy, but the stripped screw was still holding the motherboard hostage in the case.
Sunday morning Justin exchanged the power source and was confident that this would fix the problem. He eagerly hooked it up, only for it to cause a blip on the radar. *sigh* He then set out to get the stripped screw out. After several hours, frustrations led to declaring war on the screw and RIPPING it out. Yes, you heard me right. Justin was already sure the motherboard was the culprit of the breathless computer, so he felt that the scratches that occurred during the removal process were just the nail in the coffin to losing 130 dollars. *ugh* The stupid screw finally came out with the use of needle nose pliers.
Justin was sure that the mother board was dead, but still decided to see if there was any life in it. So he hooked up the power source and pushed the button. A miracle. A heart beat. It started right up and ran like a dream. We were both in shock. The stupid screw was causing a short on the motherboard. He then put all the "guts" back in the case and began installing various programs. I have the best husband and a like-new, very fast computer.
*Of course I had to put a medical spin on a tech savvy project. Yet another hazard to my day job. :)
