What a Week

It has been quite a week. Kelton is doing great with detasseling. It has been a change for all of us, having to get up at 4am to get him to the bus. But Justin is doing a great job of getting him there. We are told that the detasseling season may be done in a week, so we are planning a trip back to Utah August 6-9th. It will be another quick visit, but it will be a nice minivacay. :)

Work has been very busy for me as our company is in the process of hiring a new RN Case Manager. I've also added a couple new clients to my case load in the past couple weeks, so it takes a lot of time to get their cares up and going. But it's been a great experience and I truly enjoy my job.

Yesterday was Kelton's birthday. We celebrated by taking him to Red Robin. I tried to get him to let the staff sing to him, but he wasn't very thrilled with the idea. He did graciously take the ice cream sundae though. ;) We then went to see Jerry Seinfeld. While it wasn't as side-splitting a show as it was back in October, Jerry never disappoints. He was VERY funny. Kelton said he laughed so hard, he almost lost his voice. :)

So there you have it. Another summer week checked off the calander. There are not very many left before the weather turns cooler. Hopefully we can get a few more adventures in before that time comes. Hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

First question: what is detasseling?

Second question: will you guys be able to see you us while you're here?

You have to see our little boy and our new condo!

Detasseling is the act of removing the pollen-producing tassel from a corn (maize) plant and placing it on the ground. Detasseling is done to cross-breed, or hybridize, two different varieties of corn. Fields of corn that will be detasseled are planted with two varieties of corn. By removing the tassels from all plants of one variety, all the grain growing on those plants will be fertilized by the other variety's tassels. In addition to being more physically uniform, hybrid corn produces dramatically higher yields than corn produced by open pollination. With modern seed corn the varieties to hybridize are carefully selected so that the new variety will exhibit specific traits found in the parent plants. The detasseling process typically involves the use of specialized machines and human labor. (copied from Wikipedia) :)

We will do our best to make the rounds to see everyone in the 2 whole days we are out there. :)

HAHAHA! I thought that explanation sounded rather Wikipedia-ish :)

I'm glad Kelton had a great birthday. So are Jerry Seinfeld's shows more funny than the TV show "Seinfeld"? 'Cause there's nothing really funny on the TV show.

Have as much fun in Utah as can be expected. :)
